Sourcing Snickers and Twix for Your Retail Shelves

Chocolate pieces and raspberries

A familiar chocolate brand is only the starting point for a useful wholesale enquiry. Retailers also need to identify the exact product, pack format and quantity that fit their shelves. A clear specification makes it easier to compare replies and avoid confusing single bars, multipacks and cases.

Start with the exact format

Write down the product name as it appears in the catalogue, including its unit weight and any case information. A single bar and a bag of miniature bars serve different display needs. Do not treat similar packaging or a familiar logo as confirmation that two listings describe the same item.

Where a barcode is available, include it with the product name. Ask for clarification if a description, image and pack count appear inconsistent. Catalogue pictures help identify an item, but the specification confirmed for your enquiry should guide your planning.

Count selling units and cases separately

State whether your requested quantity refers to individual bars, retail packs or outer cases. For example, a request for ten cases is clearer when it also identifies the expected retail units per case. Ask for the case configuration to be confirmed rather than calculating a total from an ambiguous title.

Plan the quantity against your available shelf space and the period over which you expect to sell it. A larger case is not automatically the better fit when display space is limited or when you are testing a new format.

Check the information you need before accepting a proposal

Ask about the date information on the actual stock being offered and the manufacturer’s storage instructions. Decide what remaining shelf life your business needs at receipt, then make that requirement part of the enquiry. Avoid assuming a particular date from an older catalogue image.

Request the relevant label information for the intended market. The European Commission explains the role of ingredients, allergens and other mandatory information on its food information page. Check the actual item rather than transferring details from a different size or variant.

Keep the enquiry easy to review

Use one line per product and list any acceptable alternatives separately. If you are flexible about the format, explain that flexibility; if a specific size is essential, say so. This helps distinguish a proposed alternative from the item originally requested.

Include your delivery destination, preferred timing and any receiving restrictions. Keep the written reply with your own stock planning notes so the quantities, product format and agreed arrangements can be checked together.
